MARSHSIDE

The terminus for the incline railway which, by a series of wagons - the full coming down the empties going back up - brought the slate from the quarries. Here it was weighed and then sent, initially by flat bottomed barges, and then by rail, to all parts of the world. Remains of the original wooden jetties can still be seen and the incline can be walked to the quarries. The houses were built for the quarry workers and they had their own Methodist Chapel still in use today.
